Frequently Asked Questions

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

We are both skilled medal mounters who have been in the industry for over 15 years and who take an extreme level of care and pride in mounting your medals.  We are fully conversant not only in Australian medal mounting protocols, but also those of Canada, the United Kingdom and the USA.  We are fully conversant with current Military, Police and Emergency Service mounting regulations and we ensure that we regularly check all uniform regulations.

So, a few points for you......

All our Australian medal groups have an even 9.5cm drop according to current protocol (State and Military).  Medal groups from the UK, Canada, USA are mounted according to their nations protocols (unless worn in an Australian group).

Medal bars are sewn on with strong 100% cotton for long life.

Any campaign bars, long service bars, campaign numerals etc on the medal ribbon, or ribbon bars, are sewn on, not glued.

We offer the highest level of customer service, if there is an issue with our work, we will rectify it!!

What is the difference between Court Mounting and Swing Mounting?

Medals mounted swing style are mounted on a bar which can be pinned to your clothing.  Swing style allows the medals to freely swing, or move when worn.  They tend to hit against each other (which can cause damage) and make a "jingle jangle" sound when worn.

Medals mounted Court style are what today's service personnel are required to wear under Commonwealth Protocol.  The medals are affixed to an acrylic backing to hold the medals firmly in place and prevents them from clinking together (like swing mounted medals).  Any period of medals can be court mounted, from pre colonial conflicts all the way to current issue.

Can I wear my State and Commonwealth issued medals on the same rack?

Simple answer is NO.  A separation is necessary as per protocol, with Commonwealth issued medals worn on the left and State issued worn on the right.  There is no middleground on this.  Remember, Commonwealth medals include Military, and Nationally issued medals so you can see racks with Military Service Medals, the National Medal, and the National Police Service Medal in the same rack (as an example).

Do you use glue to stick my medals down when you mount them?

No! Never!!!  We hand stitch each medal to the acrylic backing using the highest quality nylon thread.  At no stage will glue ever be near your medals be they originals or replicas!  The only adhesive product we use is acid free double sided tape.

How do you construct ribbon bars?

Our ribbon bar sets are mounted on brass bars, with pins and clasps to secure them to your clothing.  Each bar is made to follow the protocols of your arm of service, and any gender requirements of that service as well.

Do you clean my original medals (or my families' original medals) with metal solvents like brasso?

NEVER!  This will scratch and damage your medals.  The harshest thing we will use on your medals is a jewellery grade foam cleaner followed by a soft medal cleaning cloth.

Can I wear my commemorative, or unofficial issued medals in my rack?

NO!!  These types of medals can only be worn by themselves on the right.  And no, they cannot be mixed with State Awards, which are also worn on the right.  Known as tinnies, these medals have never been recognised by official means and cannot under any circumstances be worn with official medals.

Can you supply other countries' medals?

Yes we can.  We have sourced many different countries medals for our previous clients including Denmark, Germany, South Africa, Italy, Greece.

Do you engrave medals?

Simple answer is no.  We only believe the original medals should be engraved.
