Instituted in 2003 and awarded to AFP staff involved in a prescribed operation or activity deemed by the Commissioner to be significant.
 
This medal is the internal award for the AFP, presented for operations involving members and not given without a prescribed clasp detailed with the name of the relevant operation or activity.
 
Further ongoing operations or activities will be designated when approved or required.
 
This medal is not issued without a clasp.
