This medal recognised service in building the capacity of the Iraqi Security Forces and was awarded to NZDF personnel who deployed on this training mission.  Around 100 NZDF personnel and some 300 Australian Defence Force troops formed a joint training mission at Camp Taji, Iraq.  In addition to the 100 personnel deployed to Camp Taji, another 40 personnel supporting operations from  from other locations in the Middle East, received this medal.
