Instituted in 1951.  Originally awarded to full-time regular police officers within any UK Constabulary for 22 years service.  However, following a national campagin by Warwickshire Police Officer Kenneth Fowler, supported by Chief Officers, the Police Federations and Members of Parliament, the award point of the medal was reduced to 20 years service on 19 January 2010.
